At this point, I think I’d have to get hit in the back of the head by a flying car doing a low pass to believe that such a thing was ever going to... take off... in a real way. These do have a damn good media team, though. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

VTOL is what is needed to make flying cars a mass-market reality. It might be true that we can’t just keep widening every single road, and the only place to put that exponential growth presence of traffic will be the sky, but you need a runway to take off and land. That compounds the ‘limited ground infrastructure’ problem. Without VTOL, I don’t think the flying car will every be more than a thing for a wealthy hobbyist to indulge in.
We also need flying and crashing flying things to be about 100x safer for a non-pilot to do than it is right now.

Totally agree. The only way that personal transport is going to go airborne is with autonomous VTOL multi-rotor type aircraft. Super cars will be tilt-thrust with fixed wings for top speed, and hot rodders will rock crazy looking tail sitters, but they will all be autonomous in places with any population density at all.
